Combines two holiday favorites in one mug of fulfillment!
I love eggnog! It hasn’t always been that way. As a child I didn’t think much of it, preferring hot chocolate as my go-to holiday warm bev. In adulthood, I discovered warm eggnog with a sprinkling of cinnamon and nutmeg on top. This was a game changer and eggnog has become a seasonal favourite. I’m also very happy to share that no one else in my household likes eggnog!
Cocoa vs. Cocao
I am a chocolate lover and enjoy hot cocao on a regular basis. Cocoa is processed at a much higher temperature than cocao. This processing depletes the nutrients. Cocao is processed at a low temperature and retains nutrients. It is high in iron and magnesium and is rich in antioxidants and neurotransmitters. There is a reason why they call this mood enhancing substance “the food of the gods!”
A divine marriage
The creation of this beverage was born out of the inspiration of the moment. I typically make cocao by combining the cocao powder, maple syrup, boiling water and a milk of choice, (often oat or almond). I opened the fridge and my eyes grew wide when I saw the carton of Organic Meadow eggnog! I promptly added it to my mug and the result was super, deliciously yum!
The Recipe…
Ingredients:
2 tsp – 1 tbsp cocao powder (depends on the size of your mug)
boiled water (enough to fill mug 3/4 full)
eggnog (enough to top off your mug or to desired taste)
Preparation:
1. Boil water in your kettle.
2. Mix the cocao powder and a few tsps of the boiled water to form a smooth paste.
3. add remaining boiling water slowly, stirring as you go to ensure it combines smoothly. Fill your cup to 3/4 full
4. Top with your favourite eggnog, (oat nog works well as a dairy-free substitute). You can heat-up the eggnog if you like a very hot beverage.
5. You can add a sprinkle of cinnamon and a dash of nutmeg on top, (optional).
5. Stir and find a very cozy place to sit and savour this seasonal sensation.
Enjoy the bliss!
P.S. Let me know how you like it.
